The Shiftys
Films and scripts entered into competition at The FilmShift Festival are eligible to win cash and prizes along with our Shifty Awards.
For most of our awards, feature-length and short works compete together for the same set of prizes. There is a separate set of prizes for professional and student screenplays.
We present Shifty Awards in the following categories:
Best of Festival
First Place
Our First Place winner will receive a $500 cash prize and a copy of Jungle Software’s “Gorilla” budgeting for independent filmmakers. The cash prize will be provided by Filmshift and the software was generously donated by Jungle Software.
Second Place
Our Second Place winner will receive a copy of Jungle Software’s “Gorilla” budgeting for independent filmmakers. Our Second Place winner will also receive a 12-month online subscription to Filmmaker magazine, provided by Filmshift. Jungle Software generously donated the software.
Third Place
Our Third Place winner will receive a 12-month online subscription to Filmmaker Magazine, provided by Filmshift.
Special Awards
The La LA Love Award
Presented to one promising LA-based Filmmaker. The award includes a one-time 25% discount on equipment rental from Wooden Nickel Lighting and a one-time 25% off discount from Atomic Production supply rentals. Along with the 20% HD camera equipment rental from Bunch/Casseday available to all who mention FilmShift, this can be a very valuable prize to indie filmmakers shooting on a tight budget.
The Shifty Uplifty Award
Presented to films that uniquely inspire and uplift through the art of film. This award is also given to films that best exemplify the ideal that we should treat all people with respect, understanding, and compassion. (As compassionate as we are, we will award no more than 5 films in this category in order to maintain the value of the awards.)
The Shifty Lime Time Award
Presented to films or filmmakers with particularly creative or strong contributions to the “Green” and/or 10% Shift revolution. (No more than 5 films to be awarded in this category.)
Audience Awards
Determined by the festival viewing audience’s vote and overall rating of the films.
Honorable Mention
Certificates of Merit will be given to a handful of films screened at the festival in the following categories:

Student Showcase

FilmShift Screenplay Competition
Scripts entered into competition in The FilmShift screenplay competition are eligible to win cash and prizes along with our Shifty Awards.
We present Shifty Awards for screenplays in the following categories:
Best of Competition
First Place
Our First Place winner will receive a $500 cash prize and a 6 month listing in Inktip’s industry newsletter. The cash prize will be provided by Filmshift and Inktip generously donated the listing.
Second Place
Our Second Place winner will receive a copy of Final Draft screenwriting software and a 12-month Script P.I.M.P Database subscription. Both prizes were generously donated by the respective companies.
Third Place
Our Third Place winner will receive a 12-month subscription to Script magazine and a 12-month Script P.I.M.P Database subscription. Both prizes were generously donated by the respective companies.
Fourth Place
Our Fourth Place winner will receive a 12-month subscription to the Script P.I.M.P Writers Database.
Fifth Place
Our Fifth Place winner will receive a 12-month subscription to the Script P.I.M.P Writers Database.
Honorable Mention
Honorable Mention Certificates of Merit will be given to a handful of screenplays at the discretion of the festival.
